Wednesday 26th March is a day that will be remembered fondly by those who attended the Hinckley ACT concert evening.
It began in the most unfortunate way – with an “eleventh hour” telephone call from the headline act whose car had broken down in Doncaster.
A few frantic phone calls ensure perhaps one of the most impressive turnouts of guitar talent ever assembled at such short notice.
The guest slot was taken by Steve Hicks who impressed with his usual high standard of guitar playing in styles ranging from classical to jazz.
Hinckley Act stalwarts Kirsten May, Bob Tibbetts and Nigel Beck were better than ever: John Riverside Alderson created a stir with his hand made resonator guitar.
The almost legendary Rob Armstrong made a welcome return as MC: there can’t be many music clubs that can boast one of the UK’s leading guitar makers as a master of ceremonies (and he happens to be rather good at it!).
And there was of course an unexpected bonus for the audience, who discovered amongst them one Gordon Giltrap who kindly agreed to provide further entertainment some of his expertly crafted tunes.

Which all goes to show that sometimes you DO get a better result if you make it up as you go along…
