Michael Chapman with Bob Tibbetts and Phil Briggs

Michael Chapman at Hinckley Act live music for Leicestershire and WarwickshireThe Hinckley ACT was proud to present another live music spectacular - an evening of the finest blues with Michael Chapman, along with Bob Tibbetts AND Phil Briggs - three for the price of one!

Michael Chapman

This self-styled old white blues guy from Yorkshire is one of the most under-rated heroes of our time.

With his uniquely English melancholic perspective and emotive guitar style he deserves wider recognition.

"I had an art college education and on a rainy night in 1966 I went into a pub in Cornwall, but I couldn't afford to pay to go in. So I said, I'll tell you what, I don't want to stay outside in the rain, I'll play guitar for half an hour for you. They offered me a job for the rest of the summer and I've been at it ever since."

Bob Tibbetts is one of the mainstays of the Hinckley Act, contributing a wonderful array of original acoustic guitar pieces.

"I compose and play acoustic guitar instrumentals, which have many influences. Whilst I have always played "fingerstyle" acoustic guitar, I have also played electric guitar in rock bands. In addition, I have always enjoyed listening to many types of music, and instruments, including the piano."

"So, my guitar pieces are influenced by musical areas that include blues, jazz, folk, rock, and classical - although my music is actually none of these. I hope it is my own unique style, (which I'm afraid I don't have a name for!)".

An eclectic mix of folk, rock, flamenco, jazz and anything else he can lay his fingers on, Phil plays a wide variety of original instrumental guitar music.

"I just chuck lots of different elements together and sometimes they come out resembling a tune" he stated without being in danger of giving too much away. His compositions are played pretty much as an even split between steel string acoustic and classical guitars.
