The best Christmas present this year!
HinckleyACT fans must all have been very good this year - a stocking bursting with Steve Hicks, Ash Mandrake, In Any Order and Tanya Holloway!
To say nothing of mulled wine AND mince pies!
The HinckleyACT put together a festive feast for members and guest alike:
Ash Mandrake
(pictured, right) has been described as "Musically eclectic (mainly folk/rock/world) and theatrical. Plays a double necked leather bound guitar, makes and wears normal and very peculiar hats - also works with a loop machine.
"Vocals have been compared to Sting having swallowed an opera singer, or Midge Ure crossed with velvet, and Tim Buckley."
Steve Hicks
Steve Hicks (pictured) is an acoustic guitarist and singer with an eclectic approach, reflecting his interest in music of different cultures and times.
With songs and instrumentals ranging from ragtime, story songs of past times and present to South American virtuoso guitar pieces, dance tunes, songs of personal experience, melodies from the timeless Celtic Tradition and sophisticated contemporary composition.
In Any Order
(pictured, right) are a four-piece acoustic folk band based in the East Midlands. Although all solo performers in their own right, the resulting powerful blend of harmonies had the three playing together regularly.
In 2000, Helen joined the group after an inpromptu audition at a local sing-around night. Although coming from a different musical background (Classical, Blues and Rock) she brought a greater depth to the harmonies and a broader range to the reportoire.
Tanya Holloway
is fast becoming a firm favourite at the HinckleyACT, her sumptuous, luscious vocals perfectly complementing the gentle tones of the acoustic guitar.
